Volvo gears up to produce e-cars in Slovakia from 2026
Bratislava, 28.12.2023
The €1.2-billion investment should help the local car industry shift towards full electrification. It was not only strong automotive competence and talented people with relevant skills but also access to climate-neutral energy that persuaded the Chinese-owned Swedish car manufacturer Volvo Cars to build its third European factory in eastern Slovakia. The greenfield investment – which will be Slovakia’s fifth full-scale car manufacturing plant – should boost the region around Košice and contribute to the local car industry’s transition to full electrification. “The arrival of another car company is a good signal that Slovakia is still an attractive destination for new investments,” Viktor Marušák, Secretary General of the Automotive Industry Association of the Slovak Republic (ZAP) told The Slovak Spectator. “What is important, however, is the portfolio of vehicles to be produced in the east of Slovakia. Volvo will produce all-electric vehicles at its new plant, which brings a densification of electric- vehicle production and therefore new specialised suppliers.” odkaz na stránku
