Among foreigners, Italians predominate in Bratislava’s Old Town
Bratislava, 16.01.2024
Slovakia has become a more attractive country for foreigners. The 2023 report, which is based on data from the 2021 census and is published by the Statistics Office, shows not only the number of foreigners but it also provides more details about who these newcomers are. As many as 102,788 foreigners had permanent and/or current (i.e. at the time of the census data collection) residence in Slovakia in 2021. Of this number, 58,498 had permanent residence. The number of foreigners with permanent residence almost doubled since the previous census in 2011, the report reads. The largest single group of foreigners with permanent residence, 17.1 percent, came from the Czech Republic. The representation of foreigners by nationality has changed only a little since the previous census. Czechs, Hungarians, Ukrainians, Poles and Romanians formed the largest groups of foreigners with permanent residence. In total, 157 nationalities (regardless of residence) lived in Slovakia in 2021. In the following analysis, we will only look at foreigners who had permanent residence in the country. odkaz na stránku
