Digital ID in Czech Republic, not yet Slovakia
Bratislava, 25.01.2024
Last weekend, the Czech Republic launched a digital ID, an app thatlovakia could do the same but it is dragging its feet, says Ľubomír Illek from Slovensko.digital, an NGO that promotes the use of e-government services. The Ministry that is responsible for digitalisation agrees that a digital ID would be more efficient. But, it says it is waiting until they get more specific standards from the European Union. Spokeswoman Zuzana Krištofovičová said the ministry has decided to postpone the active participation until the standard has been finalised with the relevant implementing prescriptions. But Lubomir Illek says the real reason for the delay is the lack of political will. “We now have a new Ministry of Tourism, as a separate ministry, but digitalisation and e-government services are in the competence of the ministry with two other purposes - Euro funds and regional development. This also shows that it is not an important issue for the government and that is why the solutions are lagging behind.” In neighbouring Czech Republic, the project was launched over the weekend. Tens of thousands of residents have downloaded the app. It does not replace the plastic card, but it is an alternative, similar to payment cards. (RTVS)odkaz na stránku
