The harvest of densely sown cereals should be 11% higher year-on-year |
Bratislava, 08.07.2025 |
 |
The expected total harvest of densely sown cereals at almost 2.9 million tons should be more than 280,000 tons higher than last year's final harvest. The expected year-on-year increase of 11% was mainly due to the increase in hectare yields of all monitored commodities. This follows from the first harvest estimate, which was prepared by the Statistical Office (Ú) of the Slovak Republic based on information collected as of June 20, 2025.
The total sown area of densely sown cereals was almost 527,000 hectares (ha), which is 3.9% (20,000 ha) more than last year. The oilseed rape harvest should remain at last year's level. 390,000 tons should be harvested, with slightly higher yields per hectare year-on-year. The relatively favorable expected yields of dense cereals and rapeseed were contributed by the warmth with sufficient precipitation after sowing of winter crops, during the winter and early spring. Farmers are optimistic and expect a slight year-on-year increase in the harvest, and yields per hectare for estimated crops, with the exception of rapeseed, should also exceed the averages for the last five years.
The most commonly grown cereal in Slovakia, wheat, which makes up more than two-thirds of the area of dense cereals, is grown on an area of almost 381,000 hectares this year. This is a slight increase in area compared to last year (9%). The average yield per hectare should reach 5.62 tons of wheat per hectare, which is slightly more than in 2024 and at the same time above the average level for the previous 5 years.
The total harvest of the second most widely grown dense cereal, barley, should reach 629,000 tonnes, which is 5.7% more than last year. The higher harvest will be despite an almost 8% decrease in the sown area. The higher harvest is expected to be the result of significantly higher expected yields year-on-year at 5.36 tonnes per hectare (an increase of 14% compared to last year). The average expected production per hectare is also 5.9% higher than the five-year average.
Higher yields are expected for rye, oats and triticale. Although the sown area of rye decreased slightly year-on-year from 8,300 to 7,700 ha, its harvest should reach 30,000 tonnes, which represents an increase of 25% compared to last year's production volume. The expected yield of 3.89 tons per hectare is, however, higher than last year and the five-year average.
The oat harvest this year could reach 37,200 tons, which is almost 17% more than last year. The increase in the harvest is mainly due to the higher yield per hectare, which is expected at 3.01 tons per hectare. This is a yield that is higher than last year's value, and is also higher than the five-year average.
The expected total oilseed rape harvest (winter and spring together) at 390,000 tons is at the same level as last year. Although the total sown area decreased by almost 10% year-on-year, the expected yield per hectare is 11% higher at 3.04 tons per hectare. The average yield per hectare of rape should be slightly below the average of the previous 5 years.odkaz na stránku |
