Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Denisa Saková (Hlas-SD) and Austrian Federal Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer will present a joint position on the US tariffs at the meeting of the Council of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Trade in Luxembourg on Monday (7 April). TASR was informed about this by the Communications Department of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic.
"We deeply regret the universal tariffs announced by the US President on 2 April. As export-oriented countries, the economies of Slovakia and Austria are significantly affected by this measure. It is important that we as the EU remain united, firm and decisive in promoting and protecting our values and interests. We will continue to prioritize a negotiated and constructive solution with the United States," Saková said in a joint statement. Together with her Austrian partner, they support a coordinated EU response to protect the industry and economic interests of the member states.
As the ministry explained, Slovakia and Austria have long advocated fair trading conditions and minimizing trade barriers within transatlantic relations. "At Monday's meeting in Luxembourg, EU member state ministers will discuss possible steps that the Union will take in response to the new measures of the US administration," he added, adding that he will continue to support solutions that take into account the interests of Slovak businesses and employees.
US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of tariffs on imports of goods from countries around the world with the aim of strengthening domestic industry and the US internal market. Under the new rules, imports from the EU will become more expensive by 20 percent, while tariffs on imported cars will reach 25 percent.odkaz na stránku |
