Biofuel producer acquires 50 percent stake in Brazilian company |
Bratislava, 22.04.2025 |

The largest Slovak biofuel producer, Envien Group, has announced its entry into the Brazilian market. It has purchased a 50 percent stake in the Brazilian company Agropéu Agro Industrial de Pompéu S.A., a major regional producer of sugar, bioethanol and green electricity from sugar cane. The acquisition was also made possible thanks to the support of the Embassy of Brazil in Bratislava, which provided Slovak investors with the necessary support throughout the process. Envien Group announced this.
For Envien Group, which is part of the AZC Group, this should be the second investment outside the European Union in a short time. It also recently announced its entry into the Indian biofuel market. “These acquisitions are part of a global development strategy. In Brazil, we have found a partner who is a family business like us and has a very similar history with our biofuel group. That is why we understand each other very well,” said Róbert Spišák, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AZC Group.
The Ambassador of Brazil to Slovakia, Gabriel Boff Moreira, emphasized that the Brazilian government welcomes this pioneering investment in Minas Gerais, which, according to him, opens the door for Slovakia to further opportunities in the dynamic and vibrant Brazilian agricultural sector.
Brazil is currently the world's largest sugar producer and the second largest producer of bioethanol. “The partnership also brings room to expand the range of crops to include corn, with which Envien Group has extensive experience. Corn is starting to play an increasingly important role in the Brazilian biofuel industry, which is also why our partnership makes sense,” added Špišák.
Agropéu Agro Industrial de Pompéu employs more than 1,000 people and processes 1.5 million tons of sugarcane annually. It is based in the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, with the capital Belo Horizonte. The sugarcane that the company processes comes exclusively from its own production. It grows it on sustainably used agricultural land, which has been used in the long term according to the principles of sustainable agriculture. It manages approximately 20,000 hectares in this way.
