Australia to stockpile key minerals |
Sydney, 24.04.2025 |
 |
Australia will begin building up reserves of critical minerals and then negotiate deals to sell them to key partners, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said. “Increasingly uncertain times require a new approach and we must work more with the natural resources that the world needs and that Australia can provide,” he said.
Australia is home to deposits of several key minerals, including lithium, nickel and cobalt - metals that are used in everything from smartphones to electric vehicles. It sells most of its mined minerals as raw ore to processing plants in China. Albanese’s government has previously suggested that the country could use its minerals as a bargaining chip in tariff talks with the United States, which, like other major producing countries, is interested in sourcing key minerals from sources other than China.
"The government's ability to build up reserves is an important hedge against market pressures, as well as intervention by other countries... It means Australia has the power to sell at the right time, to the right partners and for the right reasons," Albanese concluded. odkaz na stránku |
