Russia signs strategic partnership agreement with Venezuela |
Moscow, 08.05.2025 |
 |
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro signed a new strategic partnership agreement on Wednesday. Maduro arrived in Moscow to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. TASR reports this based on a Reuters report.
The two leaders also discussed energy and oil, the Russian Interfax news agency reports. “The parties will support the balanced and stable long-term development of world energy markets without using unfair competition tactics,” the strategic document says.
According to the agreement, Russia and Venezuela will support joint initiatives within the OPEC+ group of countries, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and other organizations in the energy sector. They pledged to cooperate in the exploration and development of new oil and gas deposits, as well as in expanding oil trade.
The document envisages closer cooperation between Russia and Venezuela, including within the UN and other international organizations, or in the field of arms control and resistance to unilateral sanctions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the agreement “serious, substantial and very important.”
The war in Ukraine has led to a deterioration in Russia’s relations with most Western states and has prompted Moscow to strengthen ties with countries that share its desire to combat the influence of the “collective West.” As of 2022, Russia has already signed strategic partnership agreements with China, North Korea and Iran.odkaz na stránku |
