April brought an increase in corporate bankruptcies in Slovakia
Bratislava, 09.05.2025
In April, 25 bankruptcies were declared in Slovakia against the assets of debtors of business entities. This is a more than 13 percent increase year-on-year, exactly a year ago, 22 bankruptcies were declared. On the contrary, in a month-on-month comparison, this is a slight decrease, when 26 companies went bankrupt in March. The number of restructurings increased from zero to three month-on-month and year-on-year. This was reported by CRIF - Slovak Credit Bureau. The April bankruptcy statistics were overwhelmingly made up of SR companies, there were 23 of them, or almost 96%. In addition, one joint-stock company and one sole proprietor went bankrupt. Ten entities had from 1 to 10 employees, another three reported an interval of 10 to 99 employees, and for 12 companies their number was not determined. "We recorded a higher number of declared bankruptcies, up to six, among entities with a business scope in wholesale and retail trade, vehicle and motorcycle repair. Five companies each went bankrupt in industrial production and in the administrative and support services section," CRIF's chief analyst Jana Marková further explained. Among the companies for which bankruptcy proceedings were initiated in April, the collapse of the well-known Slovak company Výťahy ZEVA, which manufactured, assembled and serviced elevators for more than three decades, caused considerable public concern, according to the company. Other well-known companies for which bankruptcy was declared were the Socialist Revolutionaries Bukóza Progres and Bukóza Invest. From a geographical point of view, the most bankruptcies were declared in the Bratislava region, up to 11. The Košice region followed with a significant gap with four bankruptcies. The Prešov and Banská Bystrica regions had three bankruptcies each, and the Trnava and Trenčín regions had two each. In the Nitra and Žilina regions, no new bankruptcies were declared in April. In April, eight bankruptcy proceedings were also stopped due to lack of assets and 35 were completely canceled for the same reason. Bankruptcy proceedings were initiated against 23 debtors. "On Monday, April 14, a court decision was published authorizing the first ever public preventive restructuring for the company Dedoles. The sock giant has already experienced and completed a classic restructuring. However, after two years, it was unable to fulfill the restructuring plan, set for five years, so Dedoles decided to restructure its debts in this, so far untested in practice, but legislatively possible way," added CRIF. odkaz na stránku
