| Club 500 and SOPK proposed not to approve the development vision until 2040 for now |
| Bratislava, 12.11.2025 |
 |
| The draft document Vision of the Development of the Slovak Republic by 2040 is too extensive, unrealistic, does not reflect the acute needs of the economy and does not correspond to the current situation in Slovakia. Employers from the 500 Club and the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SOPK) stated this in a joint statement on Wednesday. They proposed not to approve the document in its submitted form and to open the discussion on the long-term vision 2040 only after the economy has stabilized - at the earliest after 2026, when the results of consolidation and the new multiannual EU budgetary framework will be known.
"The 500 Club and SOPK welcome the efforts of the Slovak government to create a long-term vision of the country's development, which should transcend election periods. However, it must be said openly that the starting points on which the vision is to be built are changing rapidly today - economically, geopolitically and in the field of energy. Without stabilizing these basic assumptions, it is impossible to proceed with the creation of a long-term and responsible strategy," the organizations stated.
Businessmen do not like that the proposal remains overly complicated even after the revision. They also criticized that the project again entrusts a key role to the Slovak Academy of Sciences and several academic and departmental structures. According to Club 500 and SOPK, this in practice means the creation of another extensive bureaucratic network with unclear responsibilities. “Experience from previous projects (for example, Vision and Strategy of the Slovak Republic 2030, Vision of the Slovak Academy of Sciences 2016) has shown that such materials have never had an implementation effect and ended up as theoretical exercises without responsibility for the results,” they added.
If the government intends to have a developed vision, according to businessmen, this should be a compact and realistic material with a maximum of 15 pages. Both the 500 Club and the SOPK consider it important to develop a separate "Stabilization Framework 2026 - 2031" as a binding government document with economic measures to stabilize the business environment, energy prices and support investments. According to them, the vision should also be coordinated directly by the Office of the Government of the Slovak Republic in cooperation with relevant ministries and industry representatives.
"Vision 2040 only makes sense if it is based on real pillars of the economy and an effective state, not on another layer of analytical and coordination documents. Slovakia does not need extensive studies today, but practical steps for renewal," the organizations added.odkaz na stránku |
