The increase in toll prices has already been reflected in bakers' costs
Bratislava, 14.11.2025
The increase in toll prices by 40% since July of this year and the charging of additional road sections are causing a further increase in the costs of bread, pastries and cakes producers. On Friday, Milan Lapšanský, chairman of the board of directors of the Slovak Association of Bakers, Confectioners and Pastry Makers (SZPCC), pointed this out. However, he did not specify how these increased costs have been or will be reflected in the price of pastries. Depending on the size of the bakery, according to Lapšanský, the growth in transport costs may range from 5.0 to 6.7%. “Next year, the growth in these costs will continue, as several days of rest are being canceled, which means adding additional days of delivery to commercial establishments for us,” said Lapšanský. The head of the Bakers Association explained that the toll price was 19 cents per kilometer of road until July 1, and from mid-year it has been 27 cents. For a truck that travels around 100,000 kilometers per year, the increase in costs is approximately 7,500 euros. In addition, the state has also started to gradually charge additional road sections, which will mainly affect bakers in these regions. The National Highway Company expects that thanks to the increase in tolls alone, it will collect 50 million euros more in 2025. According to Lapšanský, this should be an additional 100 million euros annually in the following years. Lapšanský also pointed out the increase in minimum wages from January 1 next year and the associated sharp increase in bonuses for working at night, on weekends and on holidays. The additional working hours for bakers also make up more than 80% of the total working hours. Slovak entrepreneurs are also affected by consolidation measures, and at the same time, there is currently no massive state support for strategic parts of the food sector. "So that Slovak producers do not completely lose their competitiveness and Slovakia does not lose the remnants of self-sufficiency in the production of the most important foods, it is necessary to act decisively in the coming years," Lapšanský underlined. odkaz na stránku
