| Wizz Air opens its base at Bratislava Airport |
| Bratislava, 15.11.2025 |
 |
| Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air opened its base at Bratislava's M. R. Štefánik Airport on Friday. It will gradually place four of the latest 239-seat Airbus A321neo aircraft there and will provide a total of 27 direct flights from Bratislava. Airport spokeswoman Veronika Demovičová announced this.
The opening of the base also adds new flight connections from Bratislava Airport. On Friday, the first passengers with Wizz Air will fly to Barcelona, Spain, and Lamezia Terme, Italy; on Saturday (November 15), new routes to the Bulgarian cities of Plovdiv and Varna will be launched, and new flights to Malaga will be added next week. A new route to the Romanian capital Bucharest was also opened two weeks ago, the spokeswoman reminded.
"Wizz Air will operate new direct flights to Barcelona from Bratislava every day, seven times a week. In just a week, on November 21, Wizz Air will also launch a domestic route from Bratislava to Košice with daily frequency. The carrier currently provides regular flights to Skopje and London - Luton," Demovičová explained.
She announced that in mid-December, the Hungarian carrier will also start flying from Bratislava to the capital of Greece, Athens, and the Norwegian capital, Oslo. It will also add flights to Alicante in Spain, Basel in Switzerland, the Italian cities of Palermo and Naples, as well as to Niš in Serbia.
"From the beginning of 2026, the carrier will expand its Bratislava base with two more based aircraft, to a total of four. This will allow it to open additional new flights from Bratislava, increasing their number to 27 - the highest number of regular routes ever operated from Bratislava airport by any airline," the spokeswoman added.
From January 12 next year, new routes will be added from Bratislava to Chisinau in Moldova and Larnaca in Cyprus. In March 2026, new connections will be added to Berlin, Dortmund, Rome, Tirana, Ohrid, Pristina, Tel Aviv, Tuzla and Warsaw.
"Today is a significant day for Bratislava Airport. We are very pleased that we have managed to agree with the carrier on such a historic expansion, which the new base brings with the placement of four Wizz Air aircraft and the opening of many new air connections. We are consistently preparing to ensure air traffic and thank our long-standing partner Wizz Air for the development of the network of air connections for Slovak passengers," said Dušan Novota, General Director of Bratislava Airport.
"Today is an important milestone for Wizz Air in Slovakia. By opening a new base, we are not only expanding our presence in Bratislava, but also starting a new phase of operations in the country. The base will allow us to provide our passengers with even more efficient services - offering more destinations, better flight times and low ticket prices. Bratislava has proven to be a dynamic and open market and we are very pleased to contribute to its further growth," added Roland Tischner, Managing Director of Wizz Air Hungary.odkaz na stránku |
