| EU changes must take into account the structure of Slovak agriculture |
| Bratislava, 22.11.2025 |
 |
| European changes will significantly affect the functioning of the Slovak agricultural sector after 2028, and it is therefore necessary to actively promote solutions that will be fairer and take into account the structure of Slovak agriculture. This was pointed out on Friday by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Richard Takáč (Smer-SD) at a working meeting of partners on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in the context of the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework 2028 - 2034.
"Slovakia needs a stable, predictable and fair agricultural policy after 2028. The changes coming from Brussels must respect our specificities - a high share of larger farms, the important role of small farmers and the need for rural development. We will consistently promote all these parameters in negotiations with the European Commission," the minister said.
At a joint meeting of all professional organizations and partners of the Ministry of Agriculture, the CAP proposal after 2028 was presented, including degressive area-based income support, coupled income support, support in less-favoured areas, agri-environmental and climate measures, schemes for young farmers and rural businesses, as well as a new green architecture. The information presented also included changes in the fisheries and aquaculture sector brought about by the draft European regulation for the period 2028-2034.
The Ministry of Agriculture stated that the Minister was thus opening a social dialogue not only at the European level, but also with socio-economic partners on domestic soil. The aim is to create conditions that will support the modernization of the sector, increase the competitiveness of domestic producers and strengthen the resilience of the countryside. "For Slovakia, one strong common voice will shout towards the European Union that the introduced CAP is unfair and unconceptual, and we will pressure the European Commission to reverse it and make agriculture in Europe and especially in Slovakia strong," concluded Takáč.odkaz na stránku |
