V4 Chambers of Farmers Sign Tatra Declaration
Bratislava, 06.12.2025
By signing the Tatra Declaration, representatives of the agricultural chambers of the Visegrad Four (V4) countries expressed their common position and rejection of the European Commission's (EC) proposals on Friday. These are related to the announced changes to the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the Multiannual Financial Framework of the European Union (EU) for the years 2028-2034. They also declared that they would participate in a large protest in Brussels on December 18, which will be attended by more than 10,000 European farmers and food producers on hundreds of machines. After negotiations with partners, including Austria, the President of the Slovak Agricultural and Food Chamber (SPPK), Andrej Gajdoš, warned that the EC's proposals are risky and that they would jointly try to reverse the decline in European food production. "The corrections to the Commission's proposals so far are negligible and will not bring stability to European agriculture. We need to literally throw the proposal off the table and convince European politicians to finally start negotiating with us," said Gajdoš. Representatives of the agricultural sector from 25 EU member states will arrive in Brussels to point out that the EC's proposals from July are absolutely unacceptable in terms of climate, financial and security risks. Gajdoš explained that the biggest problem is the reduced budget for agriculture. For Slovakia alone, this is a reduction of one billion euros. At the same time, they criticize the capping of payments at 100,000 euros per final beneficiary, the degressive nature of payments from 20,000 euros, the merger of the 1st and 2nd pillars of the CAP and the creation of a so-called super fund. According to them, the proposal that farmers of retirement age no longer receive funds from some of the existing support schemes is also unacceptable. "The pressure from European farmers is increasing at a crucial stage in the budget and the new CAP. It is of fundamental importance not only for producers, but also for European consumers and the consumption of healthy and safe food. That is why we are participating in the largest agricultural protest in Brussels. We want to be clearly seen and heard, because an important summit of EU heads of state and government will take place on December 18 and 19," explained Jan Doležal, president of the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic. The farmers' representatives also pointed out that EC President Ursula von der Leyen is to conclude a trade agreement with the Latin American grouping Mercosur in Brazil on December 20. According to them, this will further increase the import of risky food. Robert Nowak from the National Council of Agricultural Chambers of Poland pointed out that the proposed changes are the beginning of the end of the CAP, which was created to ensure healthy and affordable food for Europe. Tibor Cseh, Secretary General of the Association of Hungarian Farmers' Organizations, pointed out that imports from third countries have been growing very rapidly over the past decade and that the current EU proposal is also making this situation worse. "The cooperation of the V4 countries is extremely important, but even the power of the V4 is not enough in this fight. That is why it is very important that all member states participate in the protest. A 20 percent reduction in support will have negative consequences and will mean that production will also decrease and more and more products will come from North Africa, South America or Ukraine," he emphasized. The upcoming protest is the fourth this year and is organized by the European organizations COPA - COGECA and the Walloon Federation of Agriculture.odkaz na stránku
