| Britain's trade deficit quadruples |
| London, 12.12.2025 |
 |
| Britain recorded a trade deficit of almost £5 billion in October. Compared to the previous month, the deficit has more than quadrupled, reaching its highest level in eight months. This was revealed on Friday in figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which were reported by the tradingeconomics portal.
According to the ONS, Britain reported a trade deficit of £4.82 billion (€5.51 billion) in October. For comparison, in September the deficit was £1.09 billion. The October deficit is also the highest since February this year, when the deficit reached £4.95 billion.
The sharp increase in the deficit is due to a decline in exports, while imports increased significantly. Exports fell by 0.3% to a 4-month low, while imports increased by 4.5%, reaching their highest level since March this year.
