Beer production in Slovakia has increased: A RECORD has also fallen
Bratislava, 14.07.2026
Beer production in Slovakia in 2025 increased by 3.7% year-on-year to 3.089 million hectoliters (hl). The record was set by the production of non-alcoholic beer, which Slovak breweries produced the most in history. Non-alcoholic beer makes up 8.2% of the beer market in the European Union (EU), which corresponds to one in every 12 beers drunk. This was reported by the Slovak Association of Beer and Malt Producers (SZVPS). “In 2025, beer production in Slovakia again exceeded the three million hectoliter mark after three years. Despite the difficult situation in the economy, consolidation measures and more unstable weather during the main brewing season from May to September, this imaginary milestone was overcome,” said Vladimír Machalík, Executive Director of SZVPS. The share of non-alcoholic beer and radler production exceeded 25%, so every fourth beer produced in Slovakia is non-alcoholic or a non-alcoholic radler. A slight decrease of 1.16% was recorded only in the radler category, which was produced by 7,000 hl less. On the other hand, the production of unflavored non-alcoholic beer in Slovakia reached a historical record in 2025, Slovak breweries brewed the most of it in history - 189,000 hl. "This represents an increase of almost 14% year-on-year. Compared to the European-wide data for 2025 and the level of year-on-year growth in non-alcoholic beer production of almost 6%, this is 2.5 times more in Slovakia. We can also see this in consumption, while in the European Union on average every 12th beer consumed is non-alcoholic, in Slovakia roughly every fifth one," said Machalík. According to him, just like in 2025, more than a fifth of beer (22%) in Slovakia was sold in breweries, restaurants and hotels (HoReCa) and 78% through retail chains. Domestic breweries brewed 97,000 hl more alcoholic beer, which is 4.4% more year-on-year. "The brewing and malting sector confirmed its position as the fourth most important sector of the Slovak food industry with its results in 2025. Despite the challenging situation at home and in Europe, Slovak breweries managed to increase production and confirmed a strong growth trend in non-alcoholic beer. However, 2026 will be a challenge for us and domestic breweries will look for ways to maintain competitiveness in the EU common market. Beer is a natural fermented beverage that requires raw materials from our fields - malting barley processed into malt and hops. And in addition to them, time for the yeast to do their work. All of this puts us in a more difficult position," added Machalík. SZVPS unites small and large beer and malt producers in Slovakia, producing 96% of the Slovak beer market, 100% of the Slovak malt market and 100% of hop production. It has been operating since 1991 and is a member of the European association of beer producers, The Brewers of Europe. odkaz na stránku
