| Kielce is the first city in Poland to decide to demolish a panel house |

| Kielce has decided to demolish a ten-story prefab building from the Polish People's Republic, which will probably be the first in Poland to be demolished. In its place, a new urban housing development with approximately 100 apartments is to be built. This is reported by the Warsaw correspondent TASR, according to the Gazeta.pl portal.
The project is to replace a building that the city considers too expensive to modernize. In its place, apartment buildings with a total area of more than 5,000 square meters are to be built. The investment is to cost 42 million zlotys (9.75 million euros).
The city is currently organizing an architectural competition for the design of a housing estate, which is to be part of the broader "New Town" concept. The new complex is to have underground garages and spaces for services. The urban apartments are to be intended for students and professionals needed on the local labor market. In total, about 100 are to be built.
The mayor of Kielce, Agata Wojda, said that the place, which she said has been creating a negative image for years, can become a symbol of modern and affordable urban housing. The older buildings are to be revitalized and used as part of the city's housing stock.
Prefabricated houses were built en masse in Poland from the 1960s to the 1980s from prefabricated concrete elements. The media often cites an estimate of about 60,000 prefab houses in the country, but experts warn that this figure needs to be refined and verified.
