| The EU imported more from third countries than it exported |

| In the second quarter of this year, EU member states imported goods from outside the Union worth 701.8 billion euros and exported products worth 680 billion euros. Compared to the previous quarter, imports increased by 9.9% and exports by 5.4%. In a year-on-year comparison, imports were higher by 11.7% and exports by 4.5%. The TASR reporter drew attention to Wednesday's Eurostat report.
The statistical office specified that in the said period, China was the largest supplier to the EU, worth 153.6 billion euros or 21.9% of total imports. The United States came in second place with imports of 98.7 billion euros (14.1%), followed by the United Kingdom with 43.4 billion euros (6.2%), Switzerland with 36.9 billion euros (5.3%) and Turkey with 25.5 billion euros (3.6%).
Compared to the second quarter of 2025, the EU increased its imports most from the United States by 11.5%, the United Kingdom by 8.8%, China by 7.9% and Switzerland by 2.1%. In contrast, imports from Turkey decreased slightly by 0.6%.
On the other hand, the EU exported goods worth €127.7 billion to the United States, making the US market the Union's main export destination with a share of 18.8%. The United Kingdom came in second with €92.7 billion (13.6%), followed by Switzerland with €60.5 billion (8.9%), China with €50.3 billion (7.4%) and Turkey with €27.3 billion (4%).
In particular, exports to Switzerland increased by 16.1% year-on-year. Exports to the United Kingdom also increased by 5.6% and China by 2.8%. Exports to the United States, on the other hand, fell by 5.6% and to Turkey by 4.9%.
