More than half of families live paycheck to paycheck
Bratislava, 06.06.2025
In Slovakia, 51% of families with children live paycheck to paycheck, and in the case of childless couples, the figure is 37%. Childless people have less tight budgets, but they also spend more. In terms of financial reserves and appreciation of money, both groups are in a comparable position. This is according to a 365.bank survey conducted by the 2muse research agency from September 3 to 9, 2024 on a sample of 1,015 respondents. "People living without children have less tight monthly budgets, but in terms of the amount of total financial reserves or investments, they are in a comparable (poor) position than couples with children. The reason is mainly their higher consumption. They should therefore focus more on accumulating and appreciating capital," explained Linda Gáliková, head of PR and internal communications at the bank. Families with children also have higher expenses, which, according to the survey, can affect the overall financial stability of households. Saving money is a problem for 56%, compared to 45% of childless couples. Childless people have less tight financial budgets, but this does not translate into a better financial background. Only about two-fifths of couples with children and almost the same percentage of childless families have a basic reserve of six times their monthly income. 36% of parents and 39% of childless couples are engaged in appreciation, that is, investing money. According to Gálikova, childless couples prefer to spend the money that they could save, while parents invest it in their children. The survey also showed that 60% of childless people treat themselves to something more expensive, while the figure for parents with children is 44%. Childless people are also more likely to admit to spending money on expenses they don't actually need. The expert emphasized that financial stability is not just a matter of good income, but mainly a matter of financial discipline and conscious decisions. odkaz na stránku
