| Gasparovic held talks with Shanghai Mayor
Examination of the General Consulate of Slovakia in Shanghai, President Ivan Gasparovic began his working visit to China. Consul General Paul Sýkorčin he presented the work of the consular department and explained the procedural difficulty in issuance of visas given to the membership of the European Union and the Schengen border zone.

Slovak national pavilion here demonstrated a very successful and excellent presentation, \"said the mayor.\"I am very pleased that after last year\'s visit of PRC President Hu Jin Tao in Bratislava strengthen our mutual relations. Now I am glad that we can also talk about EXPO 2010, \"Gasparovic said in a conversation with Han Zheng. He added that he enjoyed successful participation of Slovakia, which will have its national day Saturday in the international exposure.
Both leaders stressed that Slovakia-China cooperation has its importance in the context of our membership in the European Union, which is one of the most important trading and economic partners of China. According to the president, who led China with him and 15 Slovak companies, \"all of these steps indicate that between our country and China is good cooperation, but I think it still could be better.\" Head of State added that China is an ideal placed to invest in Slovakia and even with the Slovak to invest in third countries.\"In the field of engineering, chemistry, forestry and water management and in agricultural production, we can efficiently find common interests,\" he continued Gasparovic. I wish you a nice day at the EXPO Shanghai, dear friends from all around the world and from Slovakia, with a special welcome to the home Chinese audience. Today you will see a piece of culture and traditions of a „big small country“ in the heart of Europe – Slovakia. The motto of the whole EXPO 2010 is "Better City, Better Life“. With its 9 and a half million inhabitants, the city of Shanghai represents nearly the double of the population of the Slovak Republic. By its area, Slovakia is eight times bigger than the city of Shanghai, but we both strive for a better life. After all, among the Slovaks there were individuals those who contributed to a more beautiful Shanghai. In the twentieths and thirties of the past century the architect coming from Banska Bystrica Ladislav Hudec was working here – he holds the primacy among skyscrapers of Shanghai – the Park hotel, built in the art deco style in 1934, was the highest building in Asia until 1963, and after 1983 the highest building in Shanghai.
The life of Ladislav Hudec is very interesting. Fate drifted him to all around the word – and we offered him to you in the film by Ladislav Kabos „A Man who Changed the Face of Shanghai“, that had its premiere on 3 September in the Slovak pavilion.
But this gala night is devoted to the Slovak culture – dance, music and songs – that was opened by the East Slovakian ensemble Sarisan from the city of Presov.

The motto of Expo 2010 is "Better City, Better Life" – what´s its application in our everyday life? In the text we will briefly touch upon comparable data on the two countries:
