| PM Robert Fico did not accept the resignation of finance minister |
| Bratislava, 25.06.2008 |

| PM Robert Fico did not accept the resignation of finance minister Jan Pociatek. The minister offered it after it turned out that he had accepted an invitation to a meeting on a private yacht of J&T Finance Group in Monaco. Fico rejected any leak of information from Pociatek that might have helped financial groups make money on the recent change of the central parity of the Slovak crown against the euro.
Fico backed Pociatek already last week. Since then, other circumstances on the minister’s activities were being reviewed according to Fico – he said they were the “nonsense” which appeared in the media.
Meetings between politicians and busi-nesspeople are completely legitimate according to representatives of J&T. The group’s representatives reject that Pociatek revealed the crown’s exchange rate to them. They insisted that the PM, as well as the central bank governor, were sending out clear signals that they wanted the strongest possible exchange rate and that they operated in line with these statements and their experience.
