The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZVEZ) of the Slovak Republic, in addition to traditional trading partners in Europe and North America, has also focused its economic diplomacy activities on the Indo-Pacific region and rapidly developing countries of the global South in Africa, Latin America, Central Asia, and the Middle East. The ministry announced this on Wednesday.
"Last year, we decided to open six new Slovak embassies in Algeria, Australia, Belgium, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Tanzania. And this year, the government approved the re-establishment of two more representative offices in Ethiopia and Kuwait as part of the third phase of network adjustments," said the head of the MZVEZ, Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD), and highlighted that Slovak diplomacy has managed to almost double the number of economic diplomats in less than two years.
In addition, the ministry, in cooperation with other national actors, helps Slovak entrepreneurs to penetrate and develop in non-European markets through business missions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade stated.
The strong position of the Slovak Republic, which, according to the ministry, is the basis for the development of economic diplomacy, should also be strengthened by more than twenty years of membership in the European Union, the North Atlantic Alliance, and other important international organizations. According to Blanár, thanks to Schengen and the euro, we are achieving a significant level of Euro-Atlantic integration, which brings us significant benefits.
"Our government has decided to defend, first and foremost, the national interests of Slovakia, our people, and the economy. And to do this, we must look for business partners not only in standard, proven markets, but also in promising regions where the Slovak Republic needs to be represented in all directions," added the head of Slovak diplomacy.
