German industrial associations called on the European Union (EU) to promote a more business-friendly policy amid growing competition from abroad during talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Berlin on Thursday. TASR reports this based on DPA news. "Competitiveness is threatened in many parts of the bloc," the groups representing employees, manufacturers, and traders stated in a joint declaration. Von der Leyen promised them relief and acknowledged that it is essential to fight for European competitiveness. High energy prices, a shortage of skilled workers, and excessive bureaucracy are slowing down innovation and investment, warned the representatives of the German industry. Thus, the EU should come up with a program to improve competitiveness, they noted, calling on Brussels in particular to reduce bureaucracy."Complex regulations and excessive reporting requirements must not stifle the innovative and investment power of our companies," they declared.According to them, the EU agreement on a clean industry should ensure that energy remains affordable and reliably available even with growing demand. They also called for strengthening the internal market as well as better conditions for the free movement of skilled workers within the bloc. von der Leyen agreed with business representatives that the most important areas to address are bureaucracy, affordable energy, strengthening the internal market, new trade agreements, and relief for small and medium-sized enterprises. "I realize how much the maze of rules, reporting requirements, and other obligations (in the EU) complicates doing business in the true sense of the word," said von der Leyen. She added that the Commission is working with representatives and companies from various sectors to study EU legislation in order to remove barriers in the EU internal market.odkaz na stránku |
