| MIRRI considers the negotiations with the Chinese delegation to be standard. |

| Digital policies and the challenges brought by new technologies were the main topics of the meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization (MIRRI) of the Slovak Republic and representatives of the People's Republic of China, with this working meeting having been announced in advance. The ministry stated this on Wednesday in response to criticism from the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS), which argued that the meeting was not publicly announced. The Chinese delegation was supposed to be led by Zhuang Rongwen, the director of the Chinese Cyberspace Administration, in other words, the head of digital censorship of the local regime, criticized PS leader Michal Šimečka."It is natural that Slovakia, as a member state of the EU, communicates with partners with whom we have differing views on certain issues. Ignoring them is not a solution - on the contrary, dialogue allows us to better defend our principles while also gaining firsthand information," stated MIRRI, firmly rejecting any form of censorship and standing firmly on the values of freedom of expression.According to MIRRI, it is shortsighted to make an enemy where there is none and to seek conspiracies behind normal diplomatic practice. "Slovakia does not have to agree with everything in order to engage in dialogue - on the contrary, discussing with ideological opponents allows us to better and more confidently promote our positions," the ministry stated. It also urged PS to contribute to a substantive debate on how Slovakia should respond to technological challenges instead of focusing on labeling and creating unnecessary conspiracies. An example, according to MIRRI, is the legislation it is preparing, including the law on artificial intelligence. "No one says that we should not develop trade or other cooperation with China, but in this case, it concerns a Chinese representative who is responsible for suppressing freedom of speech in the digital space. I do not think that we need these experiences in Slovakia. After all, it was Smer that called for freedom of speech the most. Now, the same people are learning from China how to censor the internet," Šimečka pointed out.odkaz na stránku |
