| Slovakia must break free from disadvantageous pricing on the German stock exchange |
| Bratislava, 19.02.2026 |
 |
| The Network Industry Regulatory Authority (ÚRSO) is analyzing options for reducing dependence on the German energy exchange, which it believes is extremely disadvantageous for Slovakia. One alternative to the German exchange could be the creation of a regional exchange for countries with a similar energy mix or economic structure to Slovakia, said ÚRSO Chairman Jozef Holjenčík on Thursday.
The current European electricity pricing model is based on the principle that the price for the entire market is determined by the most expensive source still needed. ÚRSO pointed out that in Germany, it is also "dirty" coal and gas power plants that are significantly burdened by the price of emission allowances. In accordance with the rules of the common market, electricity producers use these high prices on the exchange and do not want to offer prices lower than market prices.
"This is a big problem for Slovakia, because our production is mostly nuclear, stable and emission-free, and therefore its real costs are much lower. However, the price on the stock exchange also reflects, for example, German costs for CO2 (carbon dioxide - editor's note) due to the use of fossil fuels. And as a result, we have an unreasonable financial burden on Slovak households and businesses," emphasized Holjenčík. ÚRSO therefore considers it important to look for solutions that would better take into account Slovak conditions and real production costs. odkaz na stránku |
