| The EC has launched a series of dialogues on supporting local food in EU countries |
| Brusel, 05.03.2026 |
 |
| The European Commission (EC) announced on Thursday that Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy Stéphane Séjourné and Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen opened the first Food Dialogue focusing on local and seasonal products in the EU. TASR correspondent reports.
The Commission specified that it is starting a series of Food Dialogues from Thursday, with the first session on the theme of Restoring the essential link between agriculture, territory and food. The dialogue will look at how local, seasonal and sustainably produced food can be better promoted across the EU.
Vice-President Séjourné and Commissioner Hansen will discuss with participating stakeholders how public procurement and partnerships with local authorities can create healthier and more sustainable food choices.
Thursday's technical discussions will present good practices from cities such as Milan and Copenhagen or from regions such as Portugal's Alto Minho.
The overall focus of this discussion is on quality, sustainability and regional resilience. The ‘best value’ approach aims to improve food quality, strengthen regional economies and increase the resilience of supply chains by prioritising seasonal, locally sourced and high-quality products.
In the later stages of the dialogue, participants will explore possible incentives to support the consumption of local and seasonal products, to promote food produced to high environmental and social standards (including organic products) and to strengthen shorter supply chains.
The next session of the Food Dialogues is planned in a few months on the theme of Competitiveness of the Food Industry.
The aim of these dialogues, announced in the Vision for Agriculture and Food, is to build sustainable, resilient and competitive food systems in Europe through dialogue with actors from across the food system, including consumers, primary producers, industry, retailers, public authorities and civil society.odkaz na stránku |
