Beer consumption in the Czech Republic fell to a historic low last year
Prag, 29.04.2026
Czechs consumed the least amount of beer in history last year. The total was 121 liters per person. Every adult Czech drank eight fewer beers than in 2024. Czech breweries brewed almost 20 million hectoliters of beer last year, almost 900,000 fewer than the previous year and even 1.6 million hectoliters fewer than in 2019. The novinky.cz server reported this. “People are increasingly consuming beer outside of pubs and restaurants. Last year, only a little more than a quarter of total domestic consumption was consumed in establishments,” said Tadeáš Slunečko, executive director of the Czech Association of Breweries and Malteries. Over the past 15 years, the gap between the amount of beer consumed in pubs and at home has widened dramatically. “Back in 2011, this ratio was almost equal,” he added. Slunečko sees three main reasons for the change in consumer behavior. “People are paying more attention to their lifestyle. Preferences are changing and people are prioritizing quality over quantity. The place of consumption is also changing,” he said. However, in the long term, according to him, the non-alcoholic beer category is growing, which increased by approximately 4% last year to 1.7 million hectoliters. According to Slunečko, older people prefer unflavored non-alcoholic beer, while younger consumers prefer flavored variants. “Compared to the pre-Covid year, 320 million fewer pints of Czech beer were consumed last year in the Czech Republic and abroad,” added Slunečko.odkaz na stránku
