SSD in central Slovakia will change the charging of the fixed fee from July
Bratislava, 07.05.2026
Households in central Slovakia that consume electricity at rates D3 and D4 will face a change in the charging of a fixed fee for a consumption point from July 1. The payment will now depend on the value of the main circuit breaker. Each consumer will thus pay for the capacity of the connection to the electricity network at their disposal, informed Miroslav Gejdoš, external communications specialist at Stredoslovenská distribučná (SSD). The higher the value of the main circuit breaker in amperes a consumer has, the higher the capacity they can use and the monthly fee for the consumption point increases proportionally. Households with rates D5 to D8 already operate on the same principle. This involves a gradual unification of the method of charging and the introduction of a fairer system in the entire segment. "If there are two houses with approximately the same electricity consumption in the same tariff, while one has the main circuit breaker value set correctly with regard to the power consumption of the appliances and the other three times higher than it actually needs, it is unfair for them to pay the same. The second house blocks the capacity for two other households," explained the principle of the change, Ľubomír Hláčik, director of the customer service section at SSD. According to the company, it is necessary to consult an electrical installation expert about the appropriate value of the main circuit breaker. The D3 and D4 tariffs are currently used by about 75,000 consumption points in the regional scope of SSD. Approximately 9,000 of them were warned by energy experts in a letter that they belong to a group of consumers who probably have an unnecessarily high value of the main circuit breaker, or do not have one installed at all, or its value is illegible. They are threatened with an increase in fixed electricity fees from July 1. The solution is to reduce the value of the main circuit breaker to the optimal level, or to install and contract it. "The missing main circuit breaker is a problem not only from a technical but also from a legislative point of view. Every point of consumption must have one. It fulfills a protective function against overload and sudden short circuit, enables safe disconnection of the household in the event of a fault or maintenance, and at the same time limits the maximum current consumption from the distribution system," Hláčik warned. According to him, if a household does not install and contract a main circuit breaker with a clearly readable value, from July 1, SSD will charge it the same fee as for a main circuit breaker with a value of 3x63 A. If a household installs a circuit breaker and its value is sufficient, for example, 3x25 A, it can save 200 euros per year. "When switching from 3x40 A to 3x25 A, the household will save almost 80 euros per year," Hláčik explained. For customers who request a change by the end of June, SSD will unseal and seal the point of consumption free of charge. The physical installation or replacement of the main circuit breaker is the responsibility of the customer, as it is their property. They should ask a certified professional or company to do this. The price of the circuit breaker is approximately 30 euros, but installation costs must also be taken into account. SSD has published an online calculator on its website with the option of calculating savings when the value of the main circuit breaker is reduced. odkaz na stránku
