| Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stressed the importance of Albania's accession to the European Union. He expressed Slovakia's support for these efforts. The head of state stated this during a joint press conference with Albanian President Bajram Begaj on the occasion of his visit. The latter thanked Slovakia for its support and recalled the importance of improving cooperation between countries.
"Global events are increasingly influenced by decisions of major powers, which have a direct impact on the economies of all countries, regardless of their size or geographical location. It is all the more important that we, as partners, are able to stand side by side and be able to respond together to potential crises resulting from conflicts and tensions in different parts of the world. Slovakia and Albania are united by a sincere interest in the stability, security, but also the prosperity of our region," Pellegrini pointed out.
He added that the European integration of the Western Balkan countries is important for the security of the European Union. Begaj agreed with this. Without the security of the Western Balkans, according to him, the security of Europe is not guaranteed.
The Albanian head of state also emphasized the need to increase the country's defense budget so that the country can fulfill its obligations to the North Atlantic Alliance. "We would be happy if Slovakia showed interest in helping Kosovo in the process of integration into the European Union," he also stated.
During the press conference, Pellegrini also responded to Albania's migration policy. He stressed his position that the Union should not keep illegal migrants on its territory, but rather finance centers in the countries from which they flow to its territory. He expects Albania to resolve the issue of migration centers, which it operates on its territory in cooperation with Italy, upon joining the Union.
Begaj arrived in Slovakia on Wednesday for his two-day visit. He is also expected to meet with the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico (Smer-SD), and the Chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, Richard Raši (Hlas-SD). He could visit Pezinok on Thursday (21 May).odkaz na stránku |
