Austria is introducing its own AI tool for public administration employees
Vienna, 21.07.2026
The Austrian public administration has its own artificial intelligence (AI) application called GovGPT. The new tool was presented on Monday by State Secretary for Digitalization Alexander Pröll (ÖVP). According to him, the government expects that this technology will support around 250,000 public employees in fulfilling their duties by the end of the year. TASR reports this based on a report by the APA agency. "We have built something that truly meets the requirements of a modern digital state," Pröll said. The aim is to relieve the administration in view of new challenges and the upcoming wave of retirements, he added. 44% of public employees will retire in the next 13 years. As part of budget consolidation measures, the government has planned that only half of the vacant positions will be newly filled. The GovGPT tool will be hosted on the servers of the federal government's computing center, Pröll added. The software is based on artificial intelligence technology developed by the French company Mistral AI, which does not have access to public administration data, Pröll stressed. The system is also designed in such a way that it is possible to change providers in the future. The tool is expected to be deployed in the Federal Chancellery in the coming days, with other levels of public administration to follow gradually by the end of this year, the State Secretary for Digitalisation said. For employees, this means that artificial intelligence will provide support in creating texts, processing document summaries or creating databases.odkaz na stránku
