| Imbalance in the labor market will not ease anytime soon |

| The imbalance in the labor market is unlikely to ease in the coming years. On the contrary, the aging population and the gradual decline in the economically active population will further accentuate it. This was stated by Ľubomír Koršňák, an analyst at UniCredit Bank, in a comment on the data on the June unemployment rate, which was published on Monday (July 20) by the Central Office of Labor, Social Affairs and Family (ÚPSVaR).
“Statistics from recent months continue to point to the two-speed nature of the domestic labor market. As a whole, the domestic labor market remains relatively tight, which should also slow down any possible increase in the unemployment rate in the coming months, mainly at the expense of job vacancies in the economy,” he explained.
He added that, as a result of structural imbalances - regional and qualification - more massive layoffs in some sectors and regions will, similarly to June, continue to lead to a temporary increase in the unemployment rate. "Part of this increase could also have a long-term character and systematically shift the unemployment rate in the economy above last year's spring lows," Koršňák added.
Analysts at the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) specified that a record number of people from mass layoffs were registered with labor offices in June, most of whom came from western Slovakia.
"The number of foreign workers increased again after last month's decline, but their increase was only moderate. Given the ongoing risks of further possible mass layoffs, this is still a relatively favorable development, although the demand for labor remains rather subdued for now," added the NBS analysts.
The Office of the Employment and Social Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia (ÚPSVaR) reported on Monday that the share of available job seekers of productive age in the working-age population reached 3.97 percent in June of this year, an increase of 0.06 percentage points month-on-month. The number of available job seekers of productive age registered with the Offices of Labour, Social Affairs and Family reached 142,868 at the end of June, which was 1,928 more than in May 2026.odkaz na stránku |
