| RRZ in July, it almost did not change the deficit estimate |

| The Slovak public finance deficit in the current year will reach 4.4% of gross domestic product (GDP) or 6.2 billion euros, unless the government takes any additional measures. The negative deviation from the official target thus continues to reach 0.3% of GDP, which means a medium risk for the implementation of the approved budget. This follows from the current July budget traffic light of the Council for Budget Responsibility (CBR).
The CBR updates its estimate every month. In July, it only very slightly increased the expected level of the deficit. Compared to the June forecast, the expected deficit increased by 27 million euros, mainly due to the faster disbursement of current state budget expenditures.
"The most significant negative deviation in the RRZ estimate from the budget is the shortfall in taxes and contributions reaching 0.3% of GDP (473 million euros), mainly lower expected revenue from corporate tax and VAT. The lower estimated revenue from corporate tax is related to the unexpected shortfall for 2025, determined from currently filed tax returns," the council explained. According to it, the deviation in VAT revenue is mainly caused by slower growth in household consumption compared to budget assumptions.
According to the RRZ, higher spending by local governments and in the healthcare sector will also have a negative impact on the budget. On the contrary, the pressures are mitigated by better management of other public administration entities, such as transport companies.
Compared to the current government estimate, which it published in April in the Annual Report on Progress in Implementing the Fiscal and Structural Plan, the deficit forecast by the RRZ for 2026 is almost identical. The difference is 33 million euros.
