Nepal, officially known, according to its Interim Constitution, as the State of Nepal[5] (previously known as Kingdom of Nepal) (Nepali: नेपाल [neˈpaːl] (help·info)) is a landlocked nation in South Asia, bordering the People's Republic of China (Tibet) to the north and India to the south, east and west. Nepal previously had been the world's only officially Hindu state (India, while having a Hindu majority is secular), with over eighty percent of the people following this faith. However, since 18 May 2006, Nepal has become a secular state. On 24 December 2007, it was announced that the monarchy will be abolished in 2008.[6]

For a relatively small country, the Nepali landscape is uncommonly diverse, ranging from the humid Terai in the south to the lofty Himalayas in the north. Nepal boasts eight of the world's ten highest mountains, including Mount Everest. Kathmandu is the capital and largest city. The exact origin of the name Nepal is uncertain, but the most popular understanding is that it is derived from Ne (holy) and pal (cave).

After a long and rich history, during which the region has splintered and coalesced under a variety of absolute rulers, Nepal became a constitutional monarchy in 1990. This arrangement has been marked by increasing instability, both in the parliament and, since 1996, throughout large swathes of the country that have been fought over by Maoist insurgents. The Maoists have sought to overthrow the monarchy and establish their own form of republic; this has led to a civil war in which more than 12,000 people have died. On the pretext of quashing the insurgents, who now control about seventy percent of the country, the king unilaterally declared a

Felipe de Jesús Calderón Hinojosa (b. August 18, 1962) is the President of Mexico. He assumed office on December 1, 2006, and was elected for one six-year term that will end in 2012 without the possibility of re-election. He is affiliated with the National Action Party (PAN), a mostly conservative organization with a tendency toward more liberal economic ideas. His official residence is Los Pinos.

Calderón was elected in the contested 2006 presidential elections. The results were controversial and contested by opponent Andrés Manuel López Obrador, validated on September 5, 2006 by the Federal Electoral Tribunal. However, according to polls conducted by Grupo Reforma in July 2006 and June 2007, 36 % of mexicans still believed the election was fraudulent or that there were serious irregularities [2].

Prior to the presidency, Calderón actively participated in PAN politics. He has served as National President of the Party, Federal Deputy, and Secretary of Energy in Vicente Fox's cabinet.

Foto : Ambassador Vincent Obsitnik Arrives in Slovakia - Ambassador Obsitnik’s remarks Bratislava, December 6, 2007

My wife, Annemarie, and I are really delighted and excited to be here in Slovakia.

I am, personally, very honored that President Bush has appointed me to be the US Ambassador to Slovakia and, very much, look forward to representing our President and the United States to the people and government of Slovakia. I was born in Slovakia, and I suppose you can call me a Rodak. I have also traveled here often, both on business and to visit my relatives, most of whom are in Eastern Slovakia.

All this has given me a close connection and association with the Slovak people. I look forward to being here and strengthening the relations between our two countries
