| The new Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the Swiss Confederation, with accreditation to the Principality of Liechtenstein, will be career diplomat Soňa Budayová.Since 1994 she has represented Slovakia in several places in the world – the Czech Republic, Finland, Kosovo, Kuwait, Malaysia and Turkey. She has been a Consul General, Deputy Ambassador and Head of Liaison Office and worked at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Brussels as well as at the United Nations in Geneva. She is returning to Switzerland for the third time, as she previously served as Deputy Ambassador at the Slovak Embassy in Bern.As stated by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, the political dialogue between the Slovak Republic and the Swiss Confederation has intensified at all levels in recent years.
Slovak and Swiss soldiers have been deployed together in peacekeeping operations in the Western Balkans for a long time – they are currently in the EUFOR Althea operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bilateral cooperation is also strengthened by the Swiss Financial Mechanism, through which Switzerland is providing Slovakia with grants for the implementation of projects in the amount of 47 million euros until 2029.
